Restoration

A ten year program is under way to restore the 1870’s Poplar Heights farm located northeast of Butler in Bates County, Missouri.

The family house, barns and extensive landscaping will be restored to their 1880’s look, and the house will become a museum for family antiques and fine art, which is currently in storage.

The primary barn, a peg and beam threshing barn, was built around 1874.  It has been restored and is now used for programs, displays, and demonstrations.

The separate broom corn barn, also over 100 years old, will be converted to a computerized research library for the history of Bates County.

The farm fields are being developed to promote native Missouri plants and wildlife and will include a series of walking trails.
